Introduction to Putaway

The putaway process in a warehouse involves moving received items to designated Bin Locations to ensure accurate inventory tracking.

During the Receiving process in OpenBoxes, items can be designated in physical Bin Locations directly or in the Receiving Bins. Items that are initially designated to the Receiving Bins can later be put away into physical Bin Locations using the Putaway functionality.

You can recognize Receiving Bins with this format: "R-Shipment ID". For example, if items in shipment 676CYC were received into Receiving Bin, the items will be allocated to the bin Location R-676CYC.

The Putaway process also allows you to easily identify if items have been designated a preferred Bin Location.

Reach out to your administrator to allocate preferred Bin Locations.

How to perform a Putaway

To create a putaway, go to the Inbound menu and click Create Putaway. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the items in receiving. The page gives you several ways to view the data so that you can easily find the lines that you want to put away.

Find your items

In the Upper Left-hand side, users can choose to see items by Stock Movement or by Product Code.

You can select items you want to putaway from either views.

Show by Stock Movement

In this view, the items are organized by stock movement. As shown in the screenshot below, items are under their respective Receiving Bins and can be expanded.
Show by Product Code

In this view, items are organized by Product Codes.

To filter further, use the search boxes for each column. In the screenshot below, I have filtered for a specific Lot number. I can then mark the item to putaway.
Once you have selected all the items that you want to putaway, click on Start Putaway.
Assign Bin Locations to items under the Putaway Bin column.
You can also putaway an item to multiple bins using the Split Line button.

Add Line to assign different Putaway bins to split quantities. Click on Save.
Generate the Putaway List for Warehouse people to physically move the items to designated bins. Click on Next.
In the Final Page, you can still Edit if Putaway Bins need to be changed. If nothing needs to be edited, click on Complete Putaway.
